An Evening with Pat Torpey - 5th February 2005

If you were lucky enough to be a part of the massive crowd who joined us at the Billy Hyde Drumcraft store for a free evening with Pat Torpey you would agree that it was one to remember. Pat was in town for Tama’s product launch of the new look Superstar series as well as the Starclassic stunning new finishes and of course the amazing Tama Bubinga Starclassic Exotix kits.

As well as having worked with hard rock outfit Mr Big, Pat has worked with many of the world’s great rock musicians including Robert Plant, Billy Sheehan, Paul Gilbert, Steve Lukhater and Matt Sorum.

Throughout the evening Pat showed why he has been chosen by so many great artists to be the back bone of their projects, displaying an incredible knowledge from both studio and touring angles. Pat’s humorous and easy going nature won the crowd over instantly and with a well articulated demonstration of his approach to drumming there was a lot of information gained from the two and a half hour performance.

Pat amazed the audience with his incredible rock groove and can I say for a predominant single kick player he had double kick chops to burn. The crowd listened intently as Pat openly shared stories and anecdotes of the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle. To top off the great night Pat was then kind enough to stay behind and sign every drum head, CD cover and drumstick that was put in front of him.

I would like to thank Charlie and Kurt at Australis Music and the staff at Billy Hyde Drumcraft for all their assistance in organising this great event. More importantly I would like to thank all who attended for once again supporting our always expanding drumming community, we hope to make all future events bigger and better for your knowledge and enjoyment.
