Karl Lewis

Karl picked up the sticks at the tender age of 10 in Bournemouth, UK, influenced by his stepfather, a respected session drummer in the 70s who played with artists, The Kinks and Shirley Bassey. In September 1980 Karl and his family moved to Brisbane, Queensland, Australia where he furthered his education and career by joining locally respected original and cover bands.

In 1990 Karl signed up with Zildjian Cymbals (Boston ,USA) as an International Endorsee and performed various clinics and promotions over the following years. 1995 saw Pearl Drums (USA & Japan) and Evan Drumheads (NY, USA) capture the promising future of Karl by also signing him on as an International Endorsee.
The move and determination to further his career was rewarded when he was asked to join one of Australia's most successful bands, 'Savage Garden'.

Savage Garden were appreciated for their hard work and success by being rewarded with many achievements including a record 10 Arias in Australia, Best Band Award on MTV and VH1 throughout the world and Best Australian Band at the World Music Awards in Monte Carlo. One of the many highlights of Karl's career was being invited to perform with Savage Garden at the closing ceremony of the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.
Karl is currently performing with the platinum selling artists Bachelor Girl ('Permission to Shine')

Karl's clinics are informative and help players learn the tricks and tools needed to obtain a rewarding career at every level. Some of the subjects Karl is able to cover include - timing, feel, playing musically, kit set-ups, playing with a sequencer, loops and click tracks, over-coming nerves, auditions and having a positive attitude.

Throughout 2001 and 2002 Karl has played an active roll as educator through out Australia and as a hired musician to many varied projects. More recently, Karl has been teaching at Melbourne's Drumtek and Melbourne University.
